Ajmodadi Churna – Ayurvedic Powder for Joint Pain, Sciatica and Back Pain

Ajmodadi Churna is considered an excellent remedy for Aamvata (rheumatoid arthritis), Sandhivata (osteoarthritis/joint pain), Ranjhan (sciatica), Katishoola (lower back pain), poor digestion of Aama (toxins), and other Vata-related pain disorders.

Preparation: To prepare this powder, buy the following whole herbs from the market, clean them, grind them, and mix the resulting powders in these proportions:

  • Ajmoda (Carum roxburghianum) – 25 grams
  • Black pepper – 25 grams
  • Lindipippali (long pepper fruit) – 25 grams
  • Vavding (Embelia ribes) – 25 grams
  • Devdar (Cedrus deodara) – 25 grams
  • Chitrak (Plumbago zeylanica) – 25 grams
  • Suva (dill seeds) – 25 grams
  • Sindhav (rock salt) – 25 grams
  • Piparimul/Ganthoda (long pepper root) – 25 grams
  • Harde (Terminalia chebula) – 125 grams
  • Sunth (dry ginger) – 250 grams
  • Vardharo (Cissus quadrangularis) – 250 grams

How to take it: Store the sieved powder in a clean glass bottle for up to three months (its potency decreases after that). Take 1 to 2 grams in water in the morning, evening, and at night.

Uses:

(1) Aamvata (Rheumatism) – Take 1 teaspoon of the powder in warm water in the morning, evening, and at night.

(2) Sandhivata (joint pain/osteoarthritis) – Take 2 grams of the powder in water, two to three times a day.

(3) Ranjhan (Sciatica) – Take a teaspoon of the powder in water, three times a day.

(4) Katishoola (lower back pain) – Take 1 teaspoon of the powder with warm water, morning and evening.

(5) Shoola (pain) – For pain arising in any part of the body, take an appropriate measure of the powder with warm water.

Note: This powder, when sold ready-made by Ayurvedic pharmacies, is often old and consequently not very effective, which is why many Ayurvedic physicians prefer to prepare it themselves using fresh herbs. If preparing it yourself is not practical, the powder or its tablet form can also be obtained from a qualified physician.
