Preparation: Buy Arjuna bark (Terminalia arjuna, also called “Sajad” or “Sadad”) from the tree itself or from a herbal-medicine shop, pound it finely, sieve it through a fine cloth to make a smooth powder, and store it in a clean, dry bottle.
How to take it: 1 to 10 grams can be taken two to three times a day with milk. The best way to take it, however, is as a Kheer (rice pudding) or Doodhpaak / Ksheerapaka (milk decoction).
To prepare Arjuna Ksheerapaka, add an equal amount of water to a cup of milk, add sugar as needed, and heat it while stirring continuously with a spoon until the water evaporates; strain and drink it. If the taste isn’t to one’s liking, it can instead be added to sheera (semolina halwa), rabri, or any other sweet dish. It is best if the milk and ghee used are from cow’s or goat’s milk. Using powdered rock sugar (sakar) instead of regular sugar is also advisable.
Uses:
(1) Heart disease – Arjuna is considered an excellent remedy for any type of heart disease. Taking it regularly helps prevent heart disease from occurring. It can be taken by anyone, in any season.
(2) Excess weight/fat – To reduce fat, taking 1 teaspoon in water every morning and night over a long period is beneficial.
(3) Fracture – For a broken bone or fracture, applying this powder as a paste with sesame oil over the affected area is advised.
