Jai Dhanvantari! Warm and healthy wishes on Dhanvantari Trayodashi (Dhanteras)!
Ayurveda Tips:
- ❄ With the sudden onset of cold weather (following heavy snowfall in the Kashmir region), those suffering from cold, cough, breathlessness, allergies, or Aamvata/Sandhivata (arthritis and joint problems), as well as children and the elderly, should keep the following points in mind.
- ☸ Anyone already prone to cold-related troubles will feel the effect immediately, so warm clothing, a cap and a muffler should be used starting early morning and at night.
- ☸ Stop cold water, cold drinks, ice cream, refrigerated items and stale food; try to drink warm water at least once during the day. Gargle with warm water mixed with salt and turmeric.
- ☸ During the festive (Diwali) season, stay away from firecrackers and the resulting pollution; avoid stepping out after 7 pm where possible, and wear a mask if you do go out.
- ☸ Avoid sweets and fried food.
- ☸ Take Tulsi (holy basil) leaves, ginger and black pepper mixed with honey. Drink warm milk with turmeric. Take a lick of Sitopaladi Churna with honey.
- ☸ Start Balchaturbhadra syrup and an Ayurvedic cough syrup for young children.
- ☸ Apply warm fomentation to the chest and take steam inhalation (Nas). Put a few drops of Anu oil, or cow’s ghee, in the nostrils.
- ☸ Those with Aamvata/Sandhivata (joint problems) may experience sudden pain flare-ups; at such times, begin warm-bag or heated-sand fomentation.
- ☸ Wear warm clothes for a morning walk and pranayama, and continue light exercise.
- ☸ If you had stopped taking your Ayurvedic medicines, resume them for the time being.
- ☸ Do not sleep during the daytime. Avoid sour and stale food.
- ☸ Patients with Aamvata should take a decoction of dry ginger (Sunth) with a little castor oil added, on a daily basis.
