Our Indian culture has offered many great personalities, saints, warriors, and intellectuals to this society, and for that they had made many efforts. For a healthy and disease-free society, today social organizations, religious institutions, and the government also think and continuous efforts are also going on for that. Billions of rupees budget is given today by WHO to every country. Through different types of camps, reliefs, and compulsory vaccination laws, they have made good efforts. But compared to those efforts, the results are seen in very small quantity. In society, in terms of health, physical wellness has definitely increased. But what about mental and cultural wellness?

Vaidya, how will such a pure, ignorant, and uncultured society become happy even after getting a long life? Ayurveda, which is the most ancient in the whole world and has given guidance and important principles regarding treatment to the entire world, its principles have still not changed and its medicines are still effective. (In modern science, principles and opinions change every five years. A medicine equal to nectar suddenly becomes poisonous. A group that once believed not to give mother’s milk later spends billions on advertisements to prove that the same mother’s milk is like nectar.)

So, what kind of a truly healthy society can be? Its imagination was proved by our sages. Even at that time there must have been lazy people who were not aware of this, so just like today the government makes laws, similarly laws made at that time do not last long and anyone can change those laws. Therefore, our sages made health preservation methods a part of Sanskar with understanding and emotion and made it an integral part of life. That is why many of our traditions today are not understood by us, but they are so well established in the form of customs that we follow them even to respect elders. Today we will try to understand one such Sanskar. And that is Suvarnaprashan Sanskar…

Here, after a child is born, doctors suggest giving vaccines at different intervals to protect the child from various diseases, and we should also give them. The basic concept of vaccines discovered only a few years ago has been woven into our tradition for thousands of years, but we are not aware of it. Against any disease, our body has a disease-fighting immunity, and that is what gives us strength to fight diseases. Those who have low immunity have higher chances of getting diseases. Modern science has developed different vaccines for different diseases and research is still going on continuously for more protection. Our sages had already thought about this principle and its solution thousands of years ago; they went further and created a system where the child’s immunity itself increases so that protection is gained against all diseases. And that is Suvarna – Gold. And for that, they gifted Suvarnaprashan Sanskar to society. ‘Suvarna’ means gold and ‘Prashan’ means licking/administration.

Why Gold? Gold is not only effective for children but equally useful for people of all ages, and it increases immunity. That is why gold has an important place in our daily life. Because for the human body, gold is a supreme metal. That is why it is considered auspicious. Gold should enter the body in some way. That is why wearing pure gold ornaments is a tradition. Donation of gold is considered the best donation. That is why elders often tell young women and daughters-in-law to wear real (gold) ornaments, not artificial ones. The reason is that those ornaments rub with the body and get absorbed into the body through the skin. That is why earlier kings and wealthy people used to eat in gold plates. The tradition of wearing ornaments became prevalent knowingly or unknowingly, but behind it was this foresight. Because gold increases immunity in the body and also increases mental and intellectual capacity. It is a radiant metal that enhances the glow of body, mind, and intellect. And that is why the whole world’s transactions also run on gold. From this tradition also, we understand the effectiveness of gold and its importance in our life!!

When Suvarnaprashan? When a child is born, there is a tradition here, and that is feeding the first lick (galathuthi). When a child is born, honey and ghee are applied on the tongue and Om is written with a gold stick. This tradition itself is our Suvarnaprashan Sanskar. Giving gold is Suvarnaprashan. We do this, but we do not know why!! How it came? We do not know! But it has survived, that is a big thing, and even after thousands of years it has survived, then how much effort our sages must have done behind it?? They worked hard for our well-being, but we never even tried to understand it!!

This Suvarnaprashan does not end by giving it only on that day, but it is just the beginning, and starting from that day it should be given daily for at least six months, and if possible, it can be given throughout childhood. (The importance of gold is so much that a tradition started of gifting gold ornaments when a child is born.)

SuvarnaprashanWhat is Suvarnaprashan? On Pushya Nakshatra, a combination of Suvarna and best Ayurvedic herbs like Brahmi, Shankhapushpi, Vacha, Shatavari, Chittak, Shatapushpa, Danti, Nasottar, Ashwagandha, Balabeej etc. is mixed with honey and cow ghee and prepared under the supervision of an expert Vaidya and administered on Pushya Nakshatra. From “Suvarnaprashan”: • Child’s intelligence and memory increase • Digestive fire and strength increase • Improves digestion and strengthens the body • Enhances complexion • Protects from infections and planetary disturbances If given daily from birth to 12 years, the child becomes highly intelligent and disease-free.

This Suvarna Prashan has been described in this way in the Kashyap Samhita text by Sage Kashyap, who is an ancient expert in Ayurvedic pediatrics.

Suvarnaprashan hi etat medhagnibalavardhanam ।

Ayushyam mangalam punyam vrushyam grahapaham ॥

Masat paramamedhavi vyadhibhirna cha dhrushyate ।

Shadbhirmasai: shrutadharah suvarnaprashanad bhavet ॥ Sutrasthanam, Kashyap Samhita

Meaning, Suvarnaprashan increases intelligence (medha), digestive fire (agni), and strength (bala). It gives longevity, is auspicious, meritorious, aphrodisiac, improves complexion, and removes planetary afflictions. By Suvarnaprashan, a child becomes intelligent within one month and is protected from diseases, and within six months becomes shrutadhar (one who remembers what is heard). That means memory power increases greatly.

Six months experiment :- If Suvarnaprashan is given continuously for six months, then the child becomes shrutadhar, meaning whatever is heard is remembered immediately, that is memory increases. Suvarnaprashan Sanskar can be given to every child up to the age of 12 years and if this experiment is done continuously for six months then the above benefits are obtained. Thus, performing Suvarnaprashan on Pushya Nakshatra is very fruitful. Benefits of Suvarnaprashan (Ayurvedic vaccination) for children: – 1. The child’s immunity increases, so the child does not fall sick and remains healthy. That means the child can be saved from antibiotics. 2. The child’s development becomes faster. 3. The child’s complexion becomes fair. 4. The child becomes active and intelligent. 5. The child’s physical and mental development becomes good. 6. As digestion improves, stomach problems do not remain. 7. If “Royal Suvarnaprashan” is given continuously for six months, then the child becomes shrutadhar, meaning whatever is read or heard once is remembered. This is stated in the scriptures.

Looking at this in another way, Suvarnaprashan is..

– Strong immunity Enhancer : Suvarnaprashan builds best resistant power and prevents from infections and helps also from re-infections. It increases children’s immunity so compared to others they fall less sick and due to staying healthy they can be protected from antibiotics from childhood itself.

– Memory Booster : Suvarnaprashan contains herbs that develop a child’s grasping power.

Suvarnaprashan Sanskar is one of the sixteen Sanskars in Indian culture. The main purpose of this Sanskar is that if strength is accumulated inside the body to fight diseases, then the child can remain healthy against various disease-causing viruses. For this, Suvarnaprashan is extremely necessary.

You should give Suvarnaprashan to your child at least once in life.

Where to get Suvarnaprashan? Since this Suvarnaprashan is prepared only on Pushya Nakshatra with proper quantity of Suvarna Bhasma and combination of all herbs described in Kashyap Samhita as per the scriptures, it becomes necessary to order it in advance so that you always get it fresh. All the medicines available from us are prepared at our place only, so their quality is maintained, the rest results will tell you.

– Keeping in mind the six-month use of this Suvarnaprashan, packing has been prepared in such a quantity that can be given daily to one child for six months, and a stick made of pure silver (for administration) is also included in it. For this, you can contact our clinic and you can also order it through courier.

– Suvarnaprashan is also given in the market and by different people, you will see it around you as well. Clarification of which I feel necessary here.

1. Giving it only once a month on Pushya Nakshatra does not give benefits as per the above shloka. 2. In many places, bottles are given for 50 or 100 rupees that last a month, but gold costing 50000 rupees per tola — how much comes in 50 or 100 rupees and how effective it is can be understood.. and later if your faith in Ayurveda and our tradition is lost then what? The effectiveness of Ayurveda depends on its quality. 3. Suvarnaprashan has to be given regularly once a day at any time, and it can be given even during any illness or while taking any medicine. 4. If you want to give it to your or your relative’s child from birth, then it should be obtained in the last month itself so that the child can properly receive this Sanskar.
