हिंदी: शुक्र धातु क्या है? आयुर्वेदिक समझ, कमज़ोरी के लक्षण और बल बढ़ाने का सही तरीका
“My dhatu has become weak,” “dhatu is passing in my urine,” “give me medicine to strengthen my dhatu.” From villages to cities, these words are heard every day. But very few people know the real meaning of the word “Dhatu” in Ayurveda. Many “secret disease” advertisements take advantage of this incomplete understanding, and young men get trapped in needless fear and expense.
Shukra Dhatu is the seventh and most subtle of the seven Dhatus described in Ayurveda. In men it is linked with semen and fertility, and in both men and women with strength, enthusiasm, attractiveness and vitality. According to Ayurveda, Shukra is not limited to semen; it is an essential energy pervading the whole body.
In this article we will understand how Shukra Dhatu forms, what the signs of healthy Shukra are, why it becomes depleted, and how to care for it properly through diet, daily routine and Vajikarana.
Key Takeaways
- Shukra Dhatu is the final essence of the chain of seven Dhatus; its foundation is good digestion (Agni).
- According to Ayurveda, it pervades the whole body and is stirred by joy of the mind.
- Normal nightfall or white drops with urine are not “loss of dhatu”; in most cases fear itself is the biggest illness.
- Sattvic food, moderation, good sleep, a happy mind and Vajikarana when needed are the right care for Shukra.
The Seven Dhatus and the Place of Shukra
According to Ayurveda, the body is made of seven Dhatus (foundational tissues): Rasa (nutrient fluid, plasma), Rakta (blood), Mamsa (muscle), Meda (fat), Asthi (bone), Majja (marrow, nerve tissue) and Shukra (reproductive essence). Food is digested into Rasa, and each Dhatu, nourished by its own Agni, nourishes the next. So Shukra is the final result of this chain. The classical teachers said it takes time for food to reach Shukra; that is why any treatment that strengthens Shukra gives results slowly.
Signs of Healthy Shukra
Charaka and Sushruta Samhita describe healthy Shukra as unctuous, thick, slimy, sweet, with a honey-like smell, crystal white in colour and adequate in quantity. As signs of good Shukra in the body, the texts mention enthusiasm, strength, a radiant face, an attractive personality, the ability to have children and a cheerful nature.
Signs of Shukra Depletion
- Low desire, weak erections.
- Less semen on ejaculation, sometimes pain or burning.
- Tiredness, lack of enthusiasm, a lean body.
- Dry mouth, dizziness, back pain.
- Difficulty having children.
From the modern point of view, these symptoms can also come from causes such as hormones, nutrition, anaemia, thyroid, diabetes, infection or mental stress. So modern tests are necessary along with Ayurvedic diagnosis.
Causes
Ayurvedic View
- Excessive sexual activity: not keeping moderation according to body strength and season.
- Worry, grief, fear, anger: Vata and Pitta rise, Shukra dries.
- Improper diet: too spicy, sour, salty, dry, incompatible food, fasting.
- Overexercise and staying awake at night.
- Age: natural depletion in old age.
- Alcohol and intoxicants.
- Long illnesses and weak Agni.
Parallel Causes in the Modern View
- Nutritional deficiency, anaemia, vitamin D and B12 deficiency.
- Diabetes, thyroid, hormone imbalance.
- Smoking, alcohol, lack of sleep, stress.
- Infection, varicocele, side effects of medicines.
Ayurvedic Understanding
Acharya Charaka says that just as ghee pervades milk and juice pervades sugarcane, Shukra pervades the whole body. It is stirred by joy of the mind, touch and desire. So the health of Shukra depends not only on medicine, but also on happiness of the mind and the quality of the relationship.
Shukra and Ojas: Ojas is the essence of all seven Dhatus and is very closely related to Shukra. When Shukra is depleted, Ojas decreases, and when Ojas decreases, immunity, enthusiasm and radiance fall. The aim of Ayurvedic treatment is to nourish both together.
The “Dhat Syndrome” Myth
In the Indian subcontinent, a condition known as “Dhat syndrome” is seen, in which young men fear that a white substance (which they consider “dhatu”) passes with urine and that this is making the body weak. Along with this come complaints of tiredness, anxiety, back pain, poor concentration and sexual problems. Mostly, this white part of urine is alkaline salts such as phosphates, infection or a little prostate fluid, and often nothing abnormal at all. The main problem is fear, guilt and wrong information. Many young men say they got this fear mostly from roadside advertisements, wall posters or friends’ talk. Such information has no scientific or classical basis. Spreading this fear in the name of Ayurveda is not in keeping with the texts.
Psychological Understanding
The fear that “dhatu is being lost” creates constant anxiety, excessive attention to the body and a feeling of weakness in young men. Anxiety itself brings tiredness, sleep problems and unstable erections, which seem to prove the fear “true.” To break this cycle, correct information, reassurance through tests and counselling when needed are the most effective.
Ayurveda’s Balanced View on Moderation
Many people believe that Ayurveda teaches complete celibacy or extreme restraint, and that every ejaculation is harmful. In reality, for married life, Ayurveda considers a moderate and joyful marital relationship part of health. In the texts, “Brahmacharya” for a householder means moderation, propriety and conduct according to the right time and season, not complete renunciation. Both excess and excessive suppression can increase Vata. The right path is the middle one: intimacy according to body strength, age, season and mutual desire, followed by rest, nourishment and happiness.
Which Tests Are Needed?
- Routine urine test (infection, alkaline salts).
- Haemoglobin, sugar, thyroid, vitamin D and B12.
- Testosterone and semen analysis if needed.
- Ayurvedic assessment of Nadi, Prakriti and Agni.
Treatment / Management
The sequence of Ayurvedic treatment is usually:
- Nidana Parivarjana: removing the causes (intoxicants, staying awake at night, worry, improper diet).
- Agni Deepana and Ama Pachana: improving digestion.
- Shodhana: Panchakarma when needed.
- Rasayana and Vajikarana: nourishment of Dhatu and Ojas.
- Sattvavajaya: care of the mind.
Modern Treatment, Explained
In modern medicine there is no separate condition like “dhatu”; there, treatment is done by finding the cause behind the symptoms. Antibiotics for infection, vitamin and iron supplements for nutritional deficiency, special treatment for hormone imbalance, and if anxiety is high, counselling and, when needed, anti-anxiety class medicines from a psychiatrist. When Ayurveda and modern tests go together, the patient gets the clearest picture.

- Bhasma or metal-based medicines only under a qualified Vaidya’s supervision, pure and certified.
- If there is blood in urine, burning or fever, get tested immediately.
- If you have diabetes, heart disease or kidney problems, consult your doctor and Vaidya before taking any Shukra-nourishing medicine or sweet, heavy diet.

Do’s and Don’ts
Do: get correct information, get tested, eat Sattvic food, sleep well, practise moderation, keep a happy mind, consult a trustworthy Vaidya.
Don’t: live in fear, take advertised medicines, take Bhasma on your own, use intoxicants, ignore anxiety.
The Partner’s Role
Ayurveda says that a loving and compatible partner is itself the best Vajikarana. When husband and wife understand each other, give respect and give time without haste, both Shukra and Ojas are nourished. Fights, criticism and pressure take away the joy of the mind, which is the greatest stimulus of Shukra. Small loving gestures, meals together, sharing the day and appreciating each other, all of this increases “Harsha” in the language of Ayurveda, which is like nourishment for Shukra and Ojas.
Counselling
Counselling is very effective for fears related to “dhatu.” It works on correct understanding of the body, understanding test reports and ways to reduce anxiety. Everything you share is kept completely confidential.
Case Studies
Case 1: “Dhatu” in the Urine
A young man from a village in his twenties was firmly convinced that white “dhatu” was passing with his urine and that this was making him weak. In two years he had spent thousands of rupees at several “secret disease” clinics. His urine test showed only phosphate salts, visible because he drank too little water. The report was explained to him in simple language; increasing water intake, Sattvic food, Abhyanga and Pranayama were started, and mind-calming (Medhya) Ayurvedic support was given for anxiety. Within a few weeks both his tiredness and fear reduced. He said that for the first time someone had shown him the report and explained what the white substance was, and that understanding became his biggest medicine. His father was also counselled, so that at home this subject would be discussed with understanding rather than fear.
Case 2: Real Depletion
A gentleman in his forties had become very thin after a long illness and months of staying awake at night. Both desire and energy were low, and semen quantity was low. Tests found anaemia and vitamin deficiency. With the physician’s treatment along with Agni Deepana, then Rasayanas such as Ashwagandha, Shatavari and Chyawanprash, and nourishing food, his body strength and enthusiasm returned in three to four months. This was a true case of Shukra-Ojas depletion. The important point here was that modern tests detected the anaemia and Ayurvedic Rasayana restored body strength; the two approaches complemented each other.
Case 3: Side Effect of Bhasma
A gentleman in his thirties took an uncertified “dhatu-strengthening” Bhasma for months. Along with stomach pain, vomiting and tiredness, tests showed signs of heavy metal effects. With the physician’s treatment and stopping the product, he gradually improved. This case shows that even Ayurvedic medicines should be taken only under a qualified Vaidya’s supervision, and only from pure and certified sources.
