Ravi and Meera\u2019s Story<\/h2>\n

\u201cMeera\u2026 why are you becoming so distant from me?\u201d<\/p>\n

Ravi had never asked that question so directly before.<\/p>\n

Meera remained silent for a few moments. She had just put their baby to sleep and was lying on one side of the bed, exhausted. Her eyes were heavy with sleep, her body ached, and somewhere inside her was a restlessness she could not quite put into words.<\/p>\n

Sleep deprivation, physical exhaustion, the demands of caring for a baby and emotional stress can also affect sexual desire.<\/p>\n

Then the counsellor looked at Ravi.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo Meera\u2019s \u2018no\u2019 should not automatically be understood as rejection of you. Sometimes her body and mind are simply asking for rest.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ravi thought about it for a while.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo when she moves away from me\u2026 it doesn\u2019t necessarily mean she wants to move away from me emotionally?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cNot necessarily,\u201d the counsellor replied. \u201cBut your feelings are not wrong either. You need affection, emotional connection and closeness with your wife. That is natural. But intimacy does not always have to mean sexual intercourse.\u201d<\/p>\n

Meera looked at Ravi.<\/p>\n

Ravi quietly said,<\/p>\n

\u201cI felt that after the baby came, I had become less important in your life.\u201d<\/p>\n

When Meera was exhausted, he took over some of the childcare.<\/p>\n

Sometimes he helped with household work without waiting to be asked.<\/p>\n
